GROOMING CLINIC
BEAVERWOOD FARM
March 10, 2012

Kirsten did a great job organizing a fun and informative day of pony grooming at Beaverwood farm today.  We had a great turnout of enthusiastic pony clubbers that learned about the proper trimming of ponies and practised trimming the whiskers, the jawline, the bridlepath and the legs.  The ponies that were provided were very patient and forgiving and everyone got lots of hands-on experience!  We also learned about thinning the mane and practised braiding.  Once the ponies were all done the kids learned how to lead the ponies properly, in halter, for a judge.  Everyone also got a chance to review, see and feel many different types of bits, girths and other equipment.  There were also some helpful hints such as using an electric tooth brush to get your pony accustomed to the sound and feel of clippers, and using a matt splitter to quickly thin and painlessly pull the mane (though gloves might be recommended!).
