Riding Meetings Children must not only have the use of a horse or pony for these meetings, and transportation to and from the Club, but must also have full control of their mounts while riding in the open. In other words, although we do have younger members involved in our club, due to the nature of our venue we require all members to have basic riding experience and reliable safe mounts. As part of your membership fees, 16 riding lessons are included. We supply a group of varied and dedicated coaches who participate in various disciplines (ie. jumper, dressage & eventing) however, most of our riding meetings are geared toward 3-day eventing, and preparing our members for testing, D-Rally and ABC Rally. Our younger members work on their basic riding skills and aspire to one day ride in the 'big field' with the more experienced kids. Members are expected to arrive with clean tack and clean ponies for their riding meetings, and are encouraged to wear their Caledon team shirts and helmet covers. We adhere to strict safety guidlines, as outlined in the Canadian Pony Club manual, and teach english riding skills according to the standards set out by this organization. No riders shall mount without an approved helmet, securely fastened. Children who do not have their medical arm bands, which must be worn on the upper arm, will not be permitted to ride. Although safety vests are recommended for all riders, they are only mandatory when riding over cross-country fences. All riders are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all times, while showing respect for their fellow riders, their mounts and their instructors. Any abuse of mounts will not be tolerated. One parent or adult must accompany each member to the riding meetings, and stay on the grounds while their child is riding. Of course, there is always time for lots of fun with fellow pony club friends, trips down to the pond and trail rides with our adult supervisors. |
